Years of research have shown that people exposed to infection by some types of mites. Ways of infection are contact-household, through food, air, hygiene items, clothing, bedding, mattresses, cushions, public transport and etc. There are thousands, if not millions, of nasty organisms living in your bedroom as well as in your bed, on your mattresses, in your sofa, on the TV, on the floor etc.

Foam pillows and mattresses are home for dust mites, allergens and bacteria. Dust mites leave behind a microscopic trail of allergens that cause allergic reactions, including asthma.

Itch mite is a parasitic arthropod that burrows into skin and causes scabies. Anyone can get scabies. It is found all over the world and the mite is transmitted by direct and prolonged skin-to-skin contact with a person who has scabies. The mite can only survive about 48 to 72 hours without human contact, so it is uncommon, though possible, for scabies to spread through infested bedding or furniture.

Dust mites are extremely tiny bugs that belong to the spider family. They live in house dust and feed on the dead skin cells that people regularly shed. Dust mites can survive in all climates and at most altitudes.

Modern homes with poor ventilation, warmth and high humidity from cooking, baths and showers have created an indoor climate prefect for house dust mite to thrive no matter where they are in the world. Common nesting sites for established colonies are known to be in mattresses, pillows, duvets, sofas, soft toys and deep piled carpets.

Dust mites living in your pillow by the millions, eating your dead skin and hair is enough to make you sick (literally and figuratively). There are a major cause of asthma and allergies; especially in vulnerable individuals, such as children and the elderly.
Unlike other common household bugs (fleas, for example), dust mites don’t bite. Their bodies, secretions and faeces contain particular proteins that can trigger allergic symptoms in susceptible people.

Demodex is a genus of tiny parasitic mites that live in or near hair follicles of humans and mammals. The mites are transferred between hosts through contact of hair, eyebrows, and sebaceous glands on the nose.

Mites may multiply rapidly, leading to the development of different pathogenic conditions. All cutaneous diseases caused by Demodex mites are clubbed under the term demodicosis or demodicidosis.

The chicken mite, Dermanyssus gallinae is a parasitic poultry mite that is widely distributed. Despite its common names (poultry red mite and roost mite), Dermanyssus gallinae has a large range of hosts including several species of wild birds, mammals and also humans.

Grain mites are common kitchen pests that infest dry food products such as cereals, flour, grain, corn, cheese, dried fruits and vegetables, etc. They grow well in dark and humid conditions. These pests barely measure and they are nearly invisible to the naked eye. Their presence often goes undetected until they have multiplied heavily.
